Helping Athletes Recognize, Embrace, and Utilize Their Emotions

We are very excited to have Dr. Jeffrey Karp offer programming at Excel Soccer Skills. Dr. Karp will be offering fun and active small group sessions to work on key mental skills for athletes. Dr. Karp will work to have each child to feel safe within the group and try different mental skills to gently push them out of their comfort zone. In an effort to build leadership skills, creating a safe group is not just Dr. Karp’s responsibility; the athletes will have an active part in developing that for themselves. Each athlete will have an opportunity to lead an activity and provide feedback to one another. The groups will normalize taking risks, making mistakes, asking for support, and supporting other athletes. Activities will be designed specifically to practice making mistakes and how to use mental skills to bounce back and continue playing. Our aim is to help your athlete increase their self-confidence and enjoyment of sports!
Goals of the session will be to have athletes gain the skills to:
Recognize how different emotions present in their minds and bodies
Embrace each emotion and understand the function it’s serving them
Utilize that emotion to help them work towards their goals
Practice leadership skills to navigate team dynamics
Use individualized interventions when feeling overwhelmed
Group, team and private sessions are available.
