Goal Keeper Coaches

Excel Soccer's Goal Keeper Coaches work during the field training and the technical goal keeper training.

Coach Chris Staats

Director of Goalkeeping

I am pleased to share that Chris Staats will be our new director of goalkeeper training. I have played soccer with Chris for many years.

Coach Chris was a four-year varsity player at North Canton Hoover High school and played in the Lake Erie League and other men’s leagues in the area, playing with Coach Tibi for many years. Soon after returning as a player, he began his coaching career at University School, where he was the goalkeeper coach and assistant varsity coach from 1997-2008. In 2006, Chris was honored to be voted the Ohio DII Boys Assistant Coach of the Year.

Coach Chris is currently the goalkeeper coach and assistant at Hathaway Brown School, where he has been coaching on the girls’ side since 2015. Many of his keepers have earned All-Greater Cleveland recognition, and several have gone on to play college soccer. As much satisfaction as he gained as a player, Coach Chris finds helping young goalkeepers to develop confidence, technical ability, and achieve success far more gratifying. A firm believer in “coaching beyond the game,” Chris asserts that the hard work, discipline, and character developed in training produces not only better goalkeepers, but better individuals.

Coach Rhianna Guarnera

Rhianna has been with Excel Soccer Skills since it opened.   Coach Rhianna graduated from John Carroll University, where she played four years as goal keeper.  Prior to that, she was the goal keeper from West Geauga High School.

Coach Brent Konieczynski

Coach Brent recently joined Excel Soccer Skills but has worked with Coach Tibi over the past year as Magnificat High School Goalkeeper coach and assistant Coach.  Coach Brent was a 3 year varsity starter at Heritage Christian School. He made the all-conference team for 3 consecutive years and was named most valuable player during his time there. During the winter, Brent played club for Cleveland United FC and Ambassadors FC. His senior year he was offered to play Division II soccer in Pensacola, Florida and study Sports Management. He earned the starting position his freshman year and made the All-Regional team. His final season in Pensacola, Brent was named team’s defensive player of the year and made the All-Regional team again.

Never fear. The Hungarian is here.
